Based on a mixtape I created in 1990 to try and show the progression of rock & roll through hard rock to metal with a special emphasis on great riffs. I have mostly included songs that were released as singles rather than album tracks.
This is part of my “Old, New, Borrowed & Blues” series which features some old tunes and live versions, a few recent releases and remixes, a handful of cover versions and a couple of blues-ey tracks.

This is a chronological mix of glam rock-style songs, starting with Bang A Gong (Get It On) by T Rex in 1971 and ending in 2016 with Mercury Rise by Electric Eye which has a similar feel to that T. Rex classic.
Other artists include David Bowie, Wizzard, The Donnas, Primal Scream, Wonderboom, Muse & Kongos

Inspired by the Deep Purple series of EPs and CDs titled “New, Live & Rare”, I made a mix of David Bowie songs in 2002 and then a Vol 2 in 2016.
And here is a mix of songs by the artists that Bowie listed on the back cover of his Pin Ups album, released in 1973.
Originally compiled in 1989 on a C90 cassette, this was part of a series of mine featuring some of the hits from rock history as well as tracks off a few of my favourite albums.
Artists include Rodriguez, Doobie Brothers, Allman Brothers Band, Deep Purple, Focus, Yes, Led Zeppelin, Xit, Shawn Phillips and many more.
This tape is on page 13 of book 7 (of 8) of my hand-written mixtape archive.
