Four Years Of Presenting On All Jazz Radio

The Vagabond Jazz & Blues Show – 14 September 2016

On the 4th of October 2012, at age 53, I started something new in my life, presenting a two-hour blues show on the then brand new internet radio station, All Jazz Radio. Despite my reluctance founder Eric Alan encouraged me to give it a go, and here we are four years later!

As my father said recently; “you are just making mixtapes like you always did when you were a teenager, except now the technology has changed, and you are getting to share your love and passion for music with other people.”

I play an eclectic mix of Jazz & Blues, with a special focus on South African artists.

I call the show “The Vagabond Jazz & Blues Show because I wander around the world of music picking up scraps of information from all over and everywhere.

My very first website I created in 1997 was called Vagabond’s World and it is still on the internet.

The Vagabond Jazz & Blues show can be heard every Wednesday between 6pm and 8pm (Central African Time) on All Jazz Radio.

History of The Blues Summit:

Mike Combrinck started the Blues Summit on the 15th November 2006 at the Tafelberg Tavern in Cape Town. This debut of the festival saw the reunion of the Blues Broers for a special summit performance, and with the help of Boulevard Blues, Albert Frost, Dan Patlansky, Delta Blue, Piet Botha and Southern Gypsey Queen, it was a great success.

In 2007 Mike entered into negotiation with long time bastion of Blues Rock, Richard Pryor to co-partner him in managing the Blues Summit. Richard ‘a solid man of Rock’ had an axe to grind and was sharpening his blues pencil to take the summit up a notch. His mandate was a musically successful summit with financial independence.

Tapping into his own musical resources, database and Blues Wigi Boards, Richard secured the sponsorship of Combustion Technology to help out financially.

Golden Horus Name by Cosmic Trip Machine directly inspired by Ramases | SpaceHymns.com

Golden Horus Name by Cosmic Trip Machine
Golden Horus Name by Cosmic Trip Machine

The Golden Horus Name project was the return of Cosmic Trip Machine on stage then, from May 2012, in studio, with a new line-up: Will Z (vocals, keyboards), Majnun (guitar), oG (bass) and Sammy.

The album tells two different stories melted: the celestial cow Egyptian myth in broad outline and the story of Barrington, a cursed rock star, a Great Pharaoh reincarnation, who lived in the Swinging London and fell into a deep depression. The character is directly inspired by the life of the musician Ramases who recorded during the 60’s and the 70’s some singles and two beautiful albums.

Golden Horus Name is a return to heaviest roots of the band, with progressive structures. The release (digital and LP) is planned for 13 September 2013.

FORMAT

LP: Nasoni Records

Digital: itunes, spotify, amazon and many others…
