Creating a cost effective web presence

Sunday, 13th December 2009

Using modern social media platforms and tools it is very easy to create an effective web presence without breaking the bank.

Do as many as possible of the following:

  • Register a domain name
  • Create a Gmail account
  • Create a one-page website with embedded feeds
  • Create a WordPress Blog
  • Create a Twitter profile
  • Create a Facebook profile and / or page
  • Create a Flickr and / or Slide.com profile
  • Create a Fanbridge profile
  • Create a YouTube profile
  • Create a MySpace profile (for musicians)
  • Create a Soundcloud profile (for musicians)
  • Blog often.

And remember not to agonize too much over the look and feel of your website and profiles.

It is more important to get them live and to start engaging with people.

What colour is your telephone?

Thursday, 3rd December 2009

Does it really matter what colour your telephone is?

What is really important is whether people are contacting you to engage with you, and if you are making calls to engage with others.

So you have a pretty yellow phone with pink polka dots and it has all the latest gadgets and gimmicks, and your number is in the phonebook.

And you sit there waiting for clients to call.

Much like a website.

Don’t agonize over the look and feel and how pretty it is, and does it have all the latest gimmicks.

350 million Facebook users (whose pages all look pretty similar, don’t they?), can’t be wrong.

Are people finding you, trusting you and engaging with you?

A phone is just a tool that enables communication, and a website is just one of many tools on the internet, that helps you to do the same.

You need to be talking and telling people what you do and engaging them in conversations.

How to Use Social Media

Wednesday, 25th November 2009

Dan Zarrella

In many cases a well-developed blog is the most important aspect of a social media marketing effort. The hub of a brand’s social media presence should be their blog since it provides conversational social media content, as well as plenty of opportunities to integrate other social channels.
