JEFF DUNHAM’S ACHMED CLIP IS FOURTH ALL-TIME MOST VIEWED VIRAL VIDEO

Wednesday, 27th May 2009

Internet Popularity Increases in Leaps & Bounds On YouTube, MySpace & Facebook

(Los Angeles) Jeff Dunham continues to triumph as a comedy and Internet phenomenon on the just-released “100 Million Views Club” that lists the most-viewed videos ever on the web, as tracked by online video view measurement firm Visible Measures. His Achmed the Dead Terrorist clip is rated at #4 in unique views with 196.5 million worldwide views.

The popularity of Dunham’s clip also attests to the fervency of his fan support. It’s the only “user generated” video in the list’s Top 10 that was placed online and distributed and promoted by fans rather than an entertainment company. It is also the only comedy clip in the Top 10 viral videos and only one of two comedy clips with more than 1 million views.

To date Dunham has racked up more than 400 million Internet views of his online clips. His Achmed clip is the fifth most viewed ever on YouTube as well as the second most popular video that viewers have added as a favorite, and Dunham also boasts two of the all-time most favorited YouTube videos. His YouTube popularity led the site to recently strike a content partnership deal with Dunham (alongside similar content partnerships with Amazon.com and iTunes that are a result of his immense popularity with consumers). The recently bowed official Dunham YouTube channel already boasts 18 million views.

His online fan community has also grown rapidly in recent months. Since the beginning of the year Dunham seen a 150% leap in Facebook fans from 560,000 to 1.4 million, becoming Top 30 among all celebrities and public figures. On MySpace, where Dunham is the #1 comedian, he has enjoyed a 70% increase in friends so far this year and has also racked up 7.7 million video views on the site.

Dunham’s appeal and the efforts by his fans to help promote his routines with his hilarious cast of comedic characters have made the comedy auteur one of the most popular entertainers on the planet. To date his three DVDs — “Arguing With Myself,” “Spark Of Insanity” and “A Very Special Christmas Special” — have amassed worldwide sales of an astounding four million plus copies collectively. The Dunham holiday special drew a record 6.6 million viewers when it debuted on Comedy Central last November to become the most-watched show ever on the channel.

The comedian also continues to prove himself the king of contemporary comedy on the road, having recently returned from a triumphant tour of Europe. He continues his North American tour, which regularly sells out large theaters and arenas and is expected to gross $45 million. And in addition to his popularity on the Internet, DVD, TV, CD, in live performance and sales of his merchandise, Dunham will join the literary world with the publication of his first book later this year.

The Lucky Fish Music Festival announces the inclusion of superstar cult hero: Rodriguez.

Tuesday, 26th May 2009

The Lucky Fish Music Festival announces the inclusion of superstar cult hero;

Rodriguez.

Lucky Fish Music Festival 3 – 6 September, Jagfontein Gauteng. 2009

Authentic Ideas and the Lucky Fish Music Festival are proud to announce the inclusion of Rodriguez on the bill for this year’s line up. Rodriguez is the second international act to be announced for the 2009 programme. Australian hardcore band, Parkway Drive was announced earlier this year.

Rodriguez is currently one of the world’s biggest cult musicians with fans all over the world from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, to UK and across the USA. However, it was not until 15 years ago, when he was rediscovered working on a building site, (by a local journalist and other enthusiasts who had embarked on a campaign to find him); did the songwriter and singer of “Sugar Man” and “I Wonder” realise that his defining album “Cold Fact” (1970) had become a cult classic and that he was a beacon of revolution for the people of South Africa.  Rodriguez had completely turned his back on the music industry after his albums “Cold Fact” and “Coming From Reality” (1972) were unsuccessful.

While his music career faded to little more than a memory in his life, Rodriguez lived an unobtrusive existence, unaware that his legend continued to grow in the Southern Hemisphere.  “Cold Fact” became a word of mouth success especially amongst the youth in the South African armed forces that identified with his counter-cultural bent. Many thought Rodriguez was dead and his album went platinum in South Africa without him ever earning one cent. Today Rodriguez is spoken of in the same reverent tones as The Doors and Jimi Hendrix.

Since 1994, when he was “rediscovered”, Rodriguez returned to South Africa and Namibia four times and his albums have been released on CD worldwide.  In 1998 Rodriguez featured in a television documentary “Dead Men Don’t Tour”. After more than 35 years it seems that the wheel of fortune is finally turning and Rodriguez’s fame is rapidly growing in his home town Detroit and throughout the USA.  His albums are being re-released and there is a documentary movie being made about the “Sugarman” himself.

In 2001, Rodriquez completed a 16 date tour of South Africa. The final performance was held at Woodstock 3 and many thousands of fans turned out to sing-a-long with their hero. This unifying and electric performance is one of the reasons Lucky Fish approached his management team for inclusion on this year’s festival. Says festival director, Nancy Hillary, “Watching Rodriguez perform at Woodstock was one of the most powerful backstage moments of my life. The pure love that emanated from the audience to the stage had me on the verge of tears. It is one of my favourite Woodstock memories, and that feeling of love, unity and happiness is something that the Lucky Fish Festival wants to instill in its patrons.”

The Lucky Fish Music Festival takes place at the Route 28 Resort in Jagfontein, just outside of Westonaria in Gauteng in the beginning of September. The festival features four days of live music, deejays, fashion, flea-markets, beer tents, a wide variety of food, swimming, games, comedy and adhoc performances.

Local band submissions are currently being accepted and the first few local artistes will be announced in the coming weeks. Bands and artistes wishing to submit for consideration should send a brief biography, myspace links and contact details to info@luckyfishfestival.co.za. Absolutely no MP3’s will be accepted.

Tickets are available through Computicket at the early bird price of R220 until the beginning of July and thereafter become R320 and R350 at the gates of the event. Bulk tickets can be purchased directly through Authentic Ideas.

Food and flea-market traders that wish to get involved in the event should contact nancy@authenticideas.co.za for application documents.

The Lucky Fish Festival is more than a once a year festival. There are several warm up events and mini concerts leading up to the event and strings of audition nights for young bands. The festival is also actively involved in The Durex Ultimate Battle, providing platforms for winners and chosen bands throughout the contest. This year the Lucky Fish Music Festival will also showcase at the Outdoor Expo over the 6th and 7th of June and at the Mediatech Expo over the 23 -25th of June.

Fans on facebook are used to the regular “Reasons to be called a Lucky Fish” discount offers that happen once a month for shows around the country. “Lucky Fish is a celebration of our music and lifestyle. It’s our way of saying thank you for all of the support over the years and months and we want to reward our community for their avid support.” Clint McKeon, Festival Director.

Press release

aKING – Against all Odds

aKING%20-%20Against%20All%20Odds.jpg

Following the runaway success of their first full length album “Dutch Courage”, aKING present  “Against all Odds”, their next delivery of chart-topping power tunes.

Produced by multiple award winning producer Theo Crous, “Against all Odds” introduces marked progression and a new edge to aKING’s pop rock identity.

The eleven new tracks offer a variety of melodic moods, for example the punchy pop rock title track “Against all Odds”, classical rock arrangements like “The heart of a Fool”, and an anthemic ballad “You and I”. The melodical sing along acoustic arrangement of  “Know your Bones” showcases aKING’s brilliant song writing abilities. The track “Face-brick Constellations” provides you with a lush indulgence in Southern Mississippi dark swampy guitar sounds.

The lyrics were once again co-written by Laudo Liebenberg and Hunter Kennedy.

Laudo says: “It wasn’t so hard to say what I wanted to say this time round. The writing process flowed much more easily.”

I find delight in empty days – I take my counsel with wine.” From “You and I”.

“I know my language has always been my limit  – and this slurred speech is my own.” From “Heart of a Fool.”

“Glorious mistakes are anxiously waiting to be made – in the nervous arms of a breakdown I find embrace.” From “Know your Bones”.

aKING manages yet again to capture the strange contrast of their unique socio-political situation.  Whereas Dutch Courage” had a more tongue in the cheek ring to it, Against All Odds is more direct, cutting to the bone. It is still driven with the infectious, sing along positive energy that currently distinguishes aKING as one ofSA’s most significant bands.

Tracklist:

  1. Set ourselves up.
  2. Fork in the Road.
  3. Face-brick Constellations
  4. The heart of a Fool
  5. Gentile Gentleman
  6. You and I
  7. Against all Odds
  8. Blood or Glitter
  9. New Clear Season
  10. The Wishing Well
  11. Know your Bones
